About Green-Schools

Green-Schools, known internationally as Eco-Schools, is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole school action for the environment

Litter and Waste

Green-Schools covers many different aspects of the environment. Litter and waste is chosen as the first theme because:

  • The subject is particularly relevant to and part of the curriculum in both primary and secondary schools
  • Litter is a visible problem; both students and the local community will notice improvements in the appearance and image of the school.
  • It is a good starting point for encouraging a sense of personal pride and responsibility.
